HERE ARE EXAMPLES OF WHAT MATHS LOOKS LIKE IN OUR CLASSROOMS
WHAT DO WE WANT FOR OUR CHILDREN?
- At Beamont, we believe that all children have the right to experience, be successful and master Mathematics. We aim to create confident, articulate and successful Mathematicians who can confidently reason, problem solve and make connections between the mathematical topics.
- We instil children with the ‘can do’ attitude and the belief that all children – no matter their starting point – should achieve, given sufficient time, and enjoy mathematics through our use of high quality teaching, appropriate sequencing and the most effective resources.
- Mathematics is a key life skill which can equip our children to go on and achieve their potential in life, breaking any false ceilings. Learning these essential building blocks, takes careful planning, research and knowledge which is tweaked for the specific needs of our children to allow for maximum progress (following COVID-19, this is more essential than ever). Building on the firm foundations within EYFS, teachers take children on a Mathematical journey through the key concepts and continue to build on it year on year, not going through at speed but ensuring every block is carefully placed and secured.
- At Beamont Primary Academy, we aim to achieve success through a mastery approach: a set of principles and beliefs. Teaching for mastery is a set of pedagogic practices that keep the class working together on the same topic, whilst at the same time addressing the need for all pupils to master the curriculum and for some to gain greater depth of proficiency and understanding. Challenge is provided by going deeper rather than accelerating into new mathematical content.
We use the National Curriculum to plan our Maths curriculum.
